The Global South Maritime Organization (GSMO) is committed to improving maritime safety across its member states by facilitating the adoption and implementation of internationally recognized safety protocols. Our programs cover vessel safety management, port facility security, and emergency preparedness to reduce accidents and protect lives at sea. Through training, inspections, and technology transfer, GSMO elevates the technical and operational standards consistent with IMO conventions such as SOLAS.
Strengthening Port Security and Emergency Response
GSMO supports member countries in implementing the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, ensuring ports and vessel operations maintain the highest security levels to counter threats such as piracy, armed robbery, and trafficking. We organize joint emergency response drills and capacity-building workshops that enable efficient coordination among government agencies, shipping operators, and coastal communities during maritime incidents and disasters.
Coordinated Search and Rescue (SAR) Operations
Recognizing the critical importance of timely life-saving measures, GSMO facilitates coordinated SAR frameworks among members. We promote interoperability of communication systems, standard operating procedures, and joint exercises to improve rescue missions at sea. Leveraging advanced technologies and regional cooperation, GSMO helps ensure rapid response capabilities to protect seafarers and maritime populations.
