Governing Leadership

GSMO’s governance is stewarded by elected leadership bodies, including the Assembly of Member States, the Council/Executive Board, and Specialized Committees and Task Forces. These bodies provide democratic governance, strategic oversight, and sectoral expertise, collectively shaping policies and guiding GSMO’s collective actions.

At the helm of this leadership structure is the Secretary-General, the chief executive responsible for overseeing the Secretariat and implementing decisions made by GSMO’s governing bodies. The Secretary-General acts as both the organizational figurehead and the principal representative of GSMO in international forums, advocating for the interests of the Global South maritime community.

The Secretariat

The Secretariat is the operational heart of GSMO, comprising a skilled team of professionals located at GSMO headquarters and regional hubs. This dedicated body supports the organization’s administrative, technical, and coordination functions, including:

Regional Presence and Collaboration

To effectively serve the diverse and geographically dispersed Global South maritime community, GSMO maintains regional offices and liaison offices.
